Ten Candles is a tragic horror tabletop role-playing game about hope slowly being extinguished at the end of the world.
The game begins with a simple, devastating truth: the world is ending, and everyone will die by the end of the session. Players portray ordinary people trying to survive in the final hours or days after a mysterious catastrophe has plunged the world into darkness. The nature of the apocalypse is intentionally vague—what matters is fear, desperation, and the human response to inevitable doom.
At the table, ten real candles are lit. Each candle represents dwindling hope. As play continues, candles are extinguished one by one, either through failed actions or narrative turns, tightening the tension and reducing the characters’ chances of success. With each candle lost, the situation grows more dire, and the characters lose mechanical advantages as well as emotional ground.
